Social Art and Culture launched UNBANNED: 100 Days, a campaign dedicated to preserving access to banned and challenged books. Over 100 days (June 19, 2026 - September 27, 2026), we will spotlight more than 100 titles, engage with communities, and continue building The Artivism Library Collection, a growing collection of books designed to protect the stories censorship tries to silence.
UNBANNED is not just a fundraiser but an act of artivism with two goals: First, preserving the information, culture, knowledge, creativity, and history that books provide. Second, raising $25,000 for the opening of The Artivism Library Collection in Washington, DC.
Over these 100 days (June 19, 2026 - September 27, 2026), this community-driven campaign preserves access to banned, challenged, and rare books while educating the community and the public at large about legislative efforts that affect access to literature. Bills passed, such as H.R. 7661, the Stop the Sexualization of Children Act, have fueled conversations about censorship, education, and the freedom to read.
PEN America Facts & Fiction May 2026
Book censorship is accelerating nationwide. In the 2024-2025 school year alone, PEN America Facts & Fiction May 2026 report notes that 3,743 unique titles were banned in U.S. public schools, limiting access to culturally diverse stories that heal and transform. These book bans disproportionately target books by Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ authors, erasing essential narratives from classrooms and libraries.
