Regener8 (named after the Great Ward 8) seeks to integrate and amplify the thriving urban farming culture in the Ward. Ward 8 is a community abuzz with urban farming initiatives in spite of being labeled a “food desert”. In fact, within the community, farmers and those working in the food equity space identify the issue as “food apartheid”, a phrase coined by Karen Washington, that brings forth the root causes of the issue such as race, class, and geography. Regener8 will engage in a series of activities to empower the local farmers and land stewards who are trying to create a sustainable space for food equity.
Jaren Hill Lockridge is a community storyteller and memory keeper that uses food and water (access) as entry points to community and cultural wellness.
Socially engaged artist and curator Mēlani N. Douglass is the founder of the award-winning Family Arts Museum. Mēlani’s art and life practice is rooted in rituals of healing informed by ancestral technology and communal connections.
Murat Cem Mengüç (he/him) is an artist, writer and historian whose work appeared in numeorus solo shows, group exhibitions and publications.
